Speaker Bio
Carsten Niemann, MD, PhD, is a Clinical Professor, Chief Physician, and Principal Investigator at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, at the University of Copenhagen, and at the Danish Cancer Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Copenhagen in 2000 and completed his PhD in 2006. Following this, he has over 10 years of hands-on experience in hematology research laboratories across Europe and the US, developing the first fully data-driven, machine-learning-based algorithm in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL); deploying the algorithm as open source into a commercial electronic health record system and into a clinical trial. He chairs the Nordic CLL Study Group, heading the CLL laboratory and clinical research program at Rigshospitalet, Denmark, and has impacted current practice in CLL by co-authoring ESMO guidelines, TP53 guidelines, and flow cytometry- and MRD-guidelines for CLL.

He is a founding member of more than five investigator-initiated clinical trials testing targeted therapy in CLL, developed in collaboration with the HOVON and German CLL Study Groups on behalf of the Nordic CLL Study Group. He is the founder and sponsor of the PreVent-ACaLL Phase 2–3 trial, the first machine-learning-based clinical trial in CLL.

His research focuses on developing innovative treatments for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) to improve the balance between efficacy and toxicity of treatment, with a specific focus on immune dysfunction. He has published more than 150 papers in leading journals.
