Dr. Swaminathan grew up in India and completed his bachelor's in medicine there. He then moved to the United States to receive residency training in internal medicine. Intrigued by the advancements and novel therapeutics in cancer medicine, Dr. Swaminathan pursued a leukemia fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and then completed his hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He then joined as faculty in the Department of Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His research focuses on novel therapeutics in CLL, low-risk MDS, and myelofibrosis. He is also interested in looking at disparities in outcomes across various types of leukemia.
